You can see it now, spectrum brilliant and bright.’ A playlist celebrating sun drenched nostalgia; sweet moments lingering in one’s memory. Damon Locks & Black Monument Ensemble’s ‘Now (Forever Momentary Space)’ is a patchwork quilt of samples; stitched together stories, crackles and snatches of words, interwoven with cascading rhythms. An interlude from the 7th Act of Robert Ashley’s magnificent electronic opera, Perfect Lives (1983), ‘Backyard’ is performed entirely in American colloquiums. Then, like a spool of golden thread, the free jazz composer Angel Bat Dawid’s rolling, gospel refrains collide and sparkle with her clarinet accompaniment, rising, rising, rising before falling away.
