We can all agree: bookstores are doubtlessly alluring. Maybe even more so when you can find Hannah Roels there – in writing or in person. Working at the multilingual bookstore Passa Porta in Brussels, having taught French to migrants and studied Romance languages and literature, Hannah elegantly avails her diverse prowess in languages. Encompassing issues of perception and intimacy, her debut novel Het Portret (2017) stimulatingly depicts the construction or deconstruction of identity. She delves into the gratifying enigma of the self even further in the short story ‘Harness’ for Extra Extra no. 20, sharing the lustful ways our desires and fantasies play a role in shaping our identities and perceptions of others.
