Club Extra Extra #3
Matteo Lucchetti

18 September, 2019, Reading Room Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Sarphatistraat 470, Amsterdam

You are warmly invited to the third Club Extra Extra, hosted at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam. Curator Matteo Lucchetti brings his Extra Extra feature 'Sugar Rush' to life. In it he lets the precarious self meet with the sensuous through the cinematic reference of Luchino Visconti’s classic film 'Conversation Piece' (1974) alongside contributions from Prouvost Laure, Otobong Nkanga, Francesco Vezzoli and others. As he writes: 'Within this Sugar Rush, different contributors brought a fragment to a contemporary portrait of these kind of encounters, quests of identity and unstable relationships, all efforts made in the attempt to understand ways of relating to each other. Together these voices form a present-day conversation piece, in which the precarity of the self meets the sensuous.'

Programme

Situated in a former cavalry barrack, Rijksakademie will welcome us in the prettiest, warmest and cosiest room of the building called ‘t Schip’. For this occasion, Rijksakademie tempted residents Christopher Mahon and Morgan Courtois to screen their film, which was shot in blazing Cairo. The film was made exclusively for the Rijksakademie community. However, for this night only, the artists will make an exception. This evening, the latest issue of Extra Extra will also be available for a special price of €10,-. In Issue 13 you can enter the beautiful imagination of dancer and choreographer Meg Stuart, and be transported into the vessels of others with Justin E. H. Smith in his feature essay. Or follow the rhythm of brega musicians and dancers through the lens of artist-duo Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca, who are in conversation with the evening’s guest Matteo Lucchetti, amongst many other great contributions.
