Poet and writer Simone Atangana Bekono knows how to endow her words with electricity, challenging form and rhythm to transform everyday spaces. In her poetry collection Marshmallow (2024), Simone makes a dog, a woman and a bedroom in a seemingly normal apartment her primary characters. Within this apartment, the body is brought to the forefront as sensuality and violence collide, and become confused with each other. Simone’s debut novel, Confrontations (2020) was awarded with the Anton Wachterprijs and has been translated into German and English.
