Although having grown up in Amsterdam, Dutch author Kira Wuck feels more at home in Nordic cultures – precisely for their sense of absurdity and melancholy. She made a splash in the literary world with her debut collection Finse meisjes (Finnish girls), which won several prizes and saw, rare for poetry-collections, numerous reprints. Conjuring up entire worlds in a mere few sentences, Kira’s sharp poetry offer fresh perspectives of everyday life – dislodging its routineness with a single pen. With telling and reliably feather-light effect, Kira’s writing has lured readers of all persuasions. Her book Noodlanding (Emergency Landing, 2016) was nominated for the J.M.A. Biesheuvel-prize for best short story collection.
