Experimenting with the collage technique, Kamonlak Sukchai provokes you to patiently glance over her works, gently encouraging you to ponder at our world from a new perspective. Glancing back at Southeast Asian folklores cautiously, Kamonlak’s work strives to understand the affair between history, national identity, religious belief and sexual mythology to ultimately push for a reinterpretation of old beliefs. Just as she is a self-taught photographer, Kamonlak inspires us to rethink our biases, to re-teach ourselves out of unfashionable attitudes. Graciously filling up pages in Extra Extra no. 20 with a selection of pieces from her exhibition RED LOTUS and work in progress Love of the sky and ground, Kamonlak’s creations display striking encounters and confrontations with others, but more importantly with the self.
