Transcending the boundaries between popular culture and the art world, filmmaker and actor Khalil Joseph gives a sense of presence, reality, storytelling and narratives to music clips, collaborating with the most seductive artists including Beyoncé or the Flying Lotus. The hypotonic 15-minute piece, titled “m.A.A.d.,” all set to the abstract lyrics of rapper Kendrick Lamar, has been displayed at Los Angeles’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Khalil’s short movies are poetic and alluringly anchored in society, depicting life, culture, and aesthetics, using peculiar and specific cameras to document his own vision.
