Julien Ignacio

Julien Ignacio is extremely well-versed in the canon of western literature, but centres his writing around characters on the periphery in one way or another. His fiery prose ignites the soul as sparks fly between his characters, their interactions exposing the wafer-thin threads that hold western society together. Hailing from the Caribbean diaspora, Julien fights for the visibility of marginalised perspectives, having edited the compilation Dat wij zongen: twintig Caraïbische schrijvers om nooit te vergeten (2022) in collaboration with fellow writer Raoul de Jong. His most recent novel Goudjakhals (2023) comprises a chain of historical and science fiction migrant stories set in Aruba and Curaçao, Beirut and Tehran, Lesbos and Amsterdam.
