Emma Rault

Emma Rault explores languages with curiosity, precision, and an attentiveness to what gets lost along the way. A writer and translator from German and Dutch, her essays have appeared in Guernica, The Cut, and the LA Review of Books, navigating between the personal and the political. As a translator, she has brought some Dutch and German voices into English. Among them, Hanna Bervoets’ We Had to Remove This Post (2022), a novel about content moderation, and Rudolph Herzog’s Ghosts of Berlin, voted one of the best books of 2019 by Literary Hub.

Translated stories: The Bed by Moya de Feyter; Pillow Princess by Nikki Dekker; Julia by Ko van ‘t Hek; The Week I Delivered The Mail by Willemijn Kranendonk; Study Of A Room by Peter Verhelst; Give~Take by Dirk Vis; His Places by Roelof ten Napel; We Who Stayed by Hannah Chris Lomans; A-Thousand-And-Some Years by Yentl van Stokkum; Old Boys by Dominique van Varsseveld; The Smell of Broccoli by Jamal Ouariachi; City Nights by Leonieke Baerwarldt; Conquistador by Tom Hofland; Throwing Three Balls in the Air To Get a Straight Line by Florence Tonk; On Not Sharing Sleep by Mariken Heitman; The Bath by Gilles van der Loo
