Arvida Byström

A digital storm with a taste for everything pink, Arvida Byström navigates the world through her photography. Creating daring snapshots of femininity in all its glorious complexity, her playful wielding of sexual aesthetics questions beauty standards and expected female behaviour. Her virtual world consists of ‘bodies that misbehave, selfie sticks and fruits in bikinis,’ according to her website, which is itself an internet playground full of wondrous pink peculiarities. A digital native, she grew up on Tumblr and continues to cultivate a strong relationship with the online, making it her mission to bring the world of ones and zeros into the physical realm through her art. Her most recent exhibition, Cut the Cake (2024) explores the place of naked bodies on the internet, while challenging the boundaries of how digital tools such as AI can be used.
