Drawing their name from the word ‘obsidian’, a form of black glass made in the turbulent heat of a volcanic eruption, Studio Ossidiana is a fiery architectural collaboration between Alessandra Covini and Giovanni Bellotti. The pair build unique, pastel-hue worlds that speculate on more-than-human cohabitation, paying special attention to birds. Inspired by their beloved parrot Coco and pet crow Cornelio, Alessandra and Giovanni craft environments of wonder where creatures of all kinds are invited to socialise and play. Their dynamic structures reimagine the notion of public space as a stage on which to discover new ways of being together, highlighting the symbolic action of shared experiences – with others, with nature and with our surroundings.
