Finding grace in the commonplace, designer Stephanie D’heygere is an advocate for ‘accessorising your accessories.’ She creates pieces that stretch the traditional boundaries of adornment with fantastical dynamism: they are up-cycled, on-the-go, usable yet luxurious. In the collections of her namesake design label, DVDs, belts, coat hangers and candles enter a playground where form and functionality switch places, merge, tease each other. According to her manifesto, everything can become an accessory. Take her Canister Hoops for example, featuring a hollow tube longing to hold a flower, a cigarette, a phone number scribbled on a scrap of paper … In D’heygere’s designs, everything can live a double life.
