Juggling her duties as an independent curator, film programmer, writer and editor, Rachel Rakes finds that she works best when confronted with a variety of creative tasks. With an interest in discourses of contemporary art and its close relationship to politics, activism and historical research, she trusts that her expertise compliments her various endeavours from her diverse mix of occupations. Being an independent curator does not necessitate operating in isolation, as Rachel prefers to work in collaboration with friends and fellow curators, making her creations all the more rich and rewarding for herself as well as for us. In Extra Extra no. 20, Rachel collaborates with writer Katherine Angel in conversation, discussing and unveiling the possibilities of desire and sexual joy.
