Did the famous graphic designer Karel Martens ever call you or do you still have one of those iconic phone cards from the nineties with overlapping colorful numbers? As a central figure of the Dutch modernist movement, his hands have turned to stamps, coins, films, books and corporate identities. Paying attention to the things we usually don’t see, Karel has a true sense of experimentation, and an ever-curious approach to colors and graphic patterns. Fascinated by optical illusions, geometric forms and static shapes, Karel’s graphic design is truly iconic. We were thrilled when Karel accepted our invitation to make a unique artwork for Extra Extra. Flip through the issue n°15, to find out what happened to the visitor’s self-portraits from the guest book at Platform-L, collected during the exhibition in Seoul.
