With an abundance of experience in film programming and curating, Julian Ross graciously radiates his passion for cinema through his teaching and research. Born in London, growing up in Tokyo and now based in Amsterdam, he utilises his multi-cultural background to push for the internationalisation of the study of expanded cinema, developing a special interest in the issue of translation in film and documentary. For Extra Extra no. 21, he interviews Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, where they speak of the powers, complications and possibilities of words in the world of film, especially with the increasing prevalence of multiple languages in our everyday lives.
