In high school, Emy Koopman dreamed of being both a rock guitarist and caregiver for the elderly. She turned out not to be very suitable for either of these professions. In an effort to understand people better, she completed a doctorate in literature and clinical psychology, where her research focuses on fiction and empathy. In her poems, essays and novels, Emy explores the fluid line that can exist between love and madness. In The Devil You Know – her short story for Extra Extra nº16 – a student and professor rekindle their affair after years of separation.
