Camille Vivier explores “the strangeness in ordinary things”, a reimagining of reality rather than a documentation of it. Depicting two classical subjects of art history, the nude and the still life, her work has an uncanny charm. Camille often creates nudes of women, gazing directly at the onlookers from their frames, unlike many of the classical counterparts. In Camille’s words: “the women I photograph are smart and aware of their bodies and power, they’re not shown as objects of desire, and I photograph all kind of bodies, far from beauty diktats.” Contributing to fashion magazines regularly, Camille is sensible to the charm of statues and how nude is incorporated into stones landscapes or gigantic animals, especially in the series Veronesi Rose and Perce Pierre.
