You might know Bertjan Pot from his iconic project Random Light. This unique lampshade made of fibreglass and resin is a true aerial and openwork skin. Light forms the basis of his practice and Bertjan thinks of design as true experimentation. Flirting with intricate techniques, patterns and vibrant colours, he is driven by the impulse of curiosity. Bertjan’s renowned mask series was constructed in this way: one day in the studio, he began stitching a rope together, with the intent to make a large flat carpet. Instead, the samples got curvy, transforming into decorative headpieces. Since then, he has explored the infinite possibilities of creating new faces. Having long been enamoured with Bertjan’s work, we were absolutely head over heels to include his collages in nº16 of Extra Extra.
