Since 2011, artist-duo Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca’s video works unfold around a sense of empathy and understanding between who films and who is filmed. Through bold and bright aesthetics, collaboration is as the core of Bárbara and Benjamin’s practice. A sensorial approach that portrays and questions the complexities of contemporary Brazilian society, where melodies of love, betrayal, luxury and power resonate. Following the rhythm of brega musicians and dancers of swingueira in Recife, their passion for popular genres elaborate on an intimate social criticism that transpires from dancing and singing bodies, a firefighter or a hairdresser playing themselves.
